Fun With Frames

Virtually all Taylor Freelance products are fitted to a particular variant of the Glock pistol. Unfortunately, over the last several years Glock has seen fit to make changes in virtually every gun in their lineup. At present we count six major variations of the Glock 17/22, two (though we suspect the existence of at least four) Glock 18's, three variations of Glock 20/21, four variations of the 26/27 line, and three variations on the 19/23 (not counting the original cut-down 17's, or such quirky variants as the "pencil-barrel" models and various commemoratives). That averages four variantions for each of five different frames that we have seen and/or held in our hands.

To add insult to injury, there is some variation from individual gun to individual gun. We have fitted slugs to one gun, then attempted to fit the same part to a nearly identical gun of the same frame style, only to find it wouldn't fit (BLD series 17's are tighter than others). There are probably more variants out there we haven't bumped into yet, but that's what we know of.

Fitting Your Gun

At present our Seattle Slugs are configured to fit the fourth generation (non-security tab, with finger grips) frame ON THE GLOCK 17/22. Our Glock 20/21 parts are built around the third generation (no finger grips) frame, which is a bit larger than the fourth generation part. Making one part that fits the third AND fourth generation Glock 20/21's has been challenging, to say the least. We've opted to stick with the older, larger model for the moment, since it's easier for the end user to take material off, than to add it back on. If you own one of the finger-grip guns, fitting your slug could take significant effort.

We're currently exploring the cost-effectiveness of CNC machining this part, allowing us to better accommodate the frame-of-the-month club at Glock. Stay tuned to Taylorfreelance.com for updates!
